Mod Mark Wrote:The Nexus (members only)
There's something big, dark, and slimy emerging from the murky depths of Lumbridge Swamp. The nature of this strange entity is unknown, but what it does mean is an awesomely social Prayer-training method aimed at low-level players!

Members will be able to head over to Lumbridge Swamp and help the druid Ysondria channel elemental forces with the sheer force of faith, stemming the tide of the corruption and earning plenty of Prayer XP in the process. There's also a chance that the horror will show its ugly face, and you'll be able to earn more XP sending it back where it belongs.

There'll be a finite amount of Prayer XP that you can gain from this training method, but it'll be enough to get a new player from 1-40 and over that first levelling hurdle with the minimum of chicken bone burial. For everyone else, it'll be a fun way to pick up a nice chunk of Prayer XP in a really cool-looking area while chatting with your friends.

God Emissaries (free players and members)
We've also got a fantastic update for lore fiends among you this month, where you'll learn more about your favourite RuneScape gods and earn some awesome rewards for pledging your allegiance.

Following the events of The World Wakes, the RuneScape gods are coming back with a vengeance. Eight new NPCs known as the God Emissaries will be making their voices heard, and they'll be looking for you to join their cause. Each emissary will be speaking in favour of a god, and will give you a full account what their god represents, what the god in question has been up to since the establishment of the edicts, and what you can do to show your support.

You'll be able to join any of the eight factions they represent: if you favour serenity, freedom and a strong, noble outlook, perhaps you'll pick Armadyl. Do you thrive in chaos, continually reforging yourself in the fires of calamity, each time stronger than before? Zamorak's your guy. If you think Guthix was right, and that the gods should mind their own business, then the new Godless faction might be for you!

Whether you're a free player or a RuneScape member, you can align yourself with the faction of their choice, earning a title and a wieldable standard to display your choice. Members can also complete combat, skilling and exploration objectives for their chosen emissary, earning XP, improvements to the battle standard such as combat and skilling buffs, and a new helmet with level 60 hybrid combat stats.

Farmed and Dangerous (members only)
High-level farmers among you will get your green fingers on 10 new plants this month. Their level requirements will range from level 76 to 96, and they'll make use of less-used plots like hops, flowers and allotments, so they'll be a great help on the way to 99.

They come with a bunch of other great benefits to boot, including opportunities to get XP in other skills once they're grown. Steal the fruit from the jaws of a Venus fly trap, for example, and you'll be able to eat it for a chunk of Thieving XP (just mind your hands!) or pull up sunchoke tubers for some outdoor Strength training. You'll also be able to use your Construction skill to build grape vines, and then grow grapes and make god-themed wines, which can be used to enhance god brew potions.

With all this - and more - coming to the Farming skill, it's going to be a blooming good spring!

Bonus XP Tidy Up (free players and members)
As an extra on one of the above update weeks, we'll be performing some maintenance on the Bonus XP system. There are loads of different items in RuneScape that can boost your XP gain from skilling or combat training, and it's high time we brought them all together under the same roof.

From this update, the bonus XP you're entitled to will be given under the same system as the Recruit a Friend scheme. Most of the changes here are going on under the hood, and are meant to help us in future development, but one big thing you'll notice is that many of these items will no longer need to be worn to access the bonus XP linked to them - so you'll be able to wear an amulet that gives you a combat bonus rather than your usual XP amulet, for example.

Solomon's Store/Squeal of Fortune (free players and members)
We've got some cool stuff coming to Solomon's Store and on the Squeal of Fortune, with dragon keepsake keys for weapons and a bunch of amazing new PvP death animations coming up, as well as the superbly spicy Fiesta de Guerreros. For those of you looking to treat yourself to some new cosmetics, the future's bright and sunny.

RuneScape Beta Programme
The RuneScape Beta Programme got off to a grand start last month, with loads of you logging in to try the HTML5 client beta and the alpha version of the New Interface System, and sending us tonnes of amazing feedback. We're working hard on fixing the first round of bugs and performance issues, but we'll be shifting the programme up a gear later this month, expanding our group of selected testers and - after that - open up both the HTML5 client and NIS to all RuneScape members for testing.

Keep the feedback coming - it's your thoughts, requests and observations which will make RuneScape 3 the game you want it to be. If you haven't been able to try the new features yet, don't worry. You'll get your chance soon, so keep your eyes on the news!

That's it for May. Enjoy the springtime sun, let us know what you think about the above and - most importantly - have fun!

Instanced God Wars & EoC Updates

Mod Chris L & Mod Avatar Wrote:Instanced God Wars Dungeons (members only)
Ever geared up for a jaunt to the God Wars Dungeon and found yourself competing with other loot-hungry adventurers for your prize? No need to worry about that, with Instanced God Wars Dungeons.

Once you've reached the kill count for your boss of choice, you'll be directed on the minimap to a safe area by an orange arrow. Once within the area, you'll see the door leading to the boss, and clicking on this door gives you a number of options: including entering the non-instanced version of the boss room; starting a new instance in either standard mode or the new hard mode; joining an existing instance; or returning to an existing instance that you've left.

Starting your own instance costs a set amount of gold coins per hour, varying depending on the boss, and anyone entering the instance can top up the time by paying again. You can set a maximum number of participants from 1 to 100 for your instance, as well as a minimum combat level. You can also add a numeric entry key, in case you want to limit the instance to players of your choice. Finally, please note that it's not yet possible to fight Nex in an instance.

Hard mode is for those of you hungry for a real challenge. Any of the God Wars bosses (with the exception of Nex) can be fought in a hard-mode instance, where they'll use the additional tactics and abilities seen in The World Wakes, but with greatly increased stats. Yields of non-rare drops are increased in hard mode, and there's a good chance of getting a new soulstone as well. These count your boss kills, which can be stored up and used in lieu of regular monster kills to gain entry for a future boss run.

New Armour System (free players and members)
All armour has now been assigned one of three types - geared towards offence, defence or versatility - and has had its stats optimised for its purpose.

Tank gear is built for defence, giving you plenty of life points and no major penalties. This type is the most common in the game - including gear such as rune armour, dragonhide armour and spider silk robes, along with higher-end gear such as Player-Owned Ports armour - and is best used in situations where you don't want to take risks, such as boss fights.

Power gear offers a 10% boost to the damage you deal, but with much lower armour rating and life points than you'd find on tank gear of the same level. This type is excellent for Slayer assignments and combat training but dangerous if you're taking big hits, and includes Bandos armour, demon slayer armour, robes of subjugation, and all Nex gear.

Hybrid gear has lower base stats than the other types, but had a big advantage in that it has no style weakness: it's equally effective against melee, ranged and magic. You won't get the high life points you'd get from tank gear, or the big max hits you'd get with a power setup, but you'll be ready for whatever's thrown your way - invaluable in PvP or complex combat minigames. Void Knight and obsidian armour are examples of hybrid gear.

Hit Chance Changes (free players and member)
We've increased the benefits that you combat-related skill levels have on the chance you have to hit your opponents. There's now an accuracy bonus in the related style with each level in Attack, Ranged and Magic, so the accuracy of attacks will increase as you level - all the way up to 99. Defence also benefits from the same contribution, so for every level of Defence you gain you will be granted bonus armour rating.

Put simply, higher levels will now enjoy greater accuracy from their attacks than even before, and those levelling will notice a bigger difference from level to level.

Finally, this update means that potions that boost your combat levels have been given a new lease of life - the increased benefit of levels meaning they're more effective than before. We've also changed how accuracy-boosting Prayers work, so they now use a similar mechanic - granting a bonus equivalent to a level boost in your related combat skill.

For full details of how hit chance is calculated, visit our wiki page

We really hope you have fun getting to grips with these improvements, and that some of the gear you'd perhaps stopped using after EoC will enjoy a new lease of life. As always, your feedback is the most important thing to us when deciding on future combat updates. If there's anything you'd like to see in the future, don't hesitate to let us know on the forums.

Enjoy!

Enjoy!

Charm Sprites - if you've not encountered them before - are woodland creatures that can be captured by level 72 Hunters, in the Hunter area just south-west of the Tree Gnome Stronghold. Not only are they a good source of Hunter XP, but they also yield charm slices when caught, which can be made into summoning charms. Full details - along with the tools that you'll need - can be obtained by speaking to Yaktwee Swinmari Cianta, south-west of the Tree Gnome Stronghold's front gate.

To give this fun activity the attention it deserves, we've made a number of improvements to make it more appealing.

It now only takes five charm slices to make a charm, rather than the original ten. The Hunter XP gained is increased too: it's now competitive with other Hunter training methods at that level, and earns you plenty of Summoning charms at the same time.

We've also introduced mystical charm slices, which - if you're lucky - can drop in addition to the coloured charm slices you get as standard. These can be used in place of any coloured charm slice, so they're handy if you need a certain type to complete a charm.

To make hunting charm sprites generally friendlier, we've also made some usability tweaks: all the trees in the area are gone, so the shaking bushes containing the sprites are much easier to see; you can now store your Yaktwee stick, spirit lure and charm slices with Yaktwee himself; and your lures are more clearly visible.

Finally, catch 1,000 charm sprites and speak to Yaktwee and you can upgrade your Yaktwee stick to confer Hunter-related benefits while wielded:

■ +5% Hunter XP gain in any Hunter training activity (as long it allows you to wield the stick). This stacks with other such effects.
■ An increased chance to uncover the rarer sprites while hunting charm sprites.
Whether you've yet to discover charm sprites or want to revisit it to enjoy the added benefits, head on over to the Tree Gnome Stronghold. The hunt is on!
The Duel Arena has been given a great big graphical polish, bringing it up to the standard of the Al Kharid rework that came with the Stolen Hearts and Diamond in the Rough quests last year. Go head-to-head against your chosen foe amid flowing banners, rough-hewn masonry and sand-blasted ruins; there's no more fitting place in RuneScape to prove your worth in one-on-one PvP combat.

We've made some structural and technical tweaks, too: there are new, dedicated arenas for boxing matches and summoning-enabled duels, and - while there are fewer visible combat arenas - starting a duel when they're full up will automatically generate an instance for you, so you'll always have a place to fight.
If you've not ventured out to the Duel Arena before, there's never been a better time to do so. In the arena, you can get a taste of PvP combat with no chance of losing your hard-earned gear. You set the conditions of the fights: you can duel for a mutually agreed stake of items or gold coins, or just enjoy a friendly scrap for fun and bragging rights. You can set other conditions too: fancy a muscular brawl just with melee weapons? No problem. Think crossbows at dawn are the only civilized way to settle a dispute? That can be arranged. You can even claim a duellist's cap from the mightily moustachioed Estocada, which can be upgraded as you rack up wins for improved looks, an emote, and the ability to transform into a statue commemorating your victories.
The gauntlet's been thrown down. Go forth and duel!

Mod Asherz Wrote:Castle Wars: Revamped (members)

The ever-popular Castle Wars minigame gets a rock-solid new look today, and - thanks to your feedback - loads of tweaks and improvements to the Castle Wars arena and gameplay. Siege warfare's never been so fun, and it's certainly never looked this good!

Our graphics team have outdone themselves: each keep impressively imposing, with thematic trappings in each, and the tunnels beneath the arena are darkly atmospheric and moodily lit. Importantly, we've stayed faithful to the core style you know so well, so whether you're manning the ramparts or sneaking as a sapper, you'll feel right at home.

Your feedback on Castle Wars has led us to implement a number of gameplay improvements, too:

Dual Currency System: Castle Wars tickets have been replaced with two currencies: silver and gold. Silver tickets buy you handy consumables such as ballista parts, potions, and chinchompas. You'll get one of these no matter how you do in the game, so you'll never finish a Castle Wars game empty handed. Those who win or draw, however, will receive gold tickets, which can be spent on the excellent armour sets used within the minigame.

Improved Castle Wars Armour: Speaking of armour, we've greatly improved the Castle Wars armour sets that can be purchased with the gold tickets - profound armour, for example, is now on par with Nex gear (within the bounds of Castle Wars). They're also now a 'hybrid' style of armour - great if you like to mix it up with magic, melee and ranged.

Usability Improvements: As well as an update to the interfaces showing the status of your castle, and the game score, there are a range of much-requested usability improvements too:

Altars in each spawn room, so there's an easy way to replenish your prayer points.
Helms can now be taken into the arena.
Wait times have been reduced and the number of people required to start a game is now 2 per team.
Damaged or unbuilt ballistas no longer count as obstacles.
Team colours have been added to barricades.
Catapult and ballista damage has been adjusted.
Ice spells now have a staggered bind time, the binding shot ability has had its bind time reduced and, while in the arena, the smash ability now has a 60% chance to hit.
Explosive potions can now be added to the Action Bar.
The tinderbox can now be picked up by multiple players.
Waiting rooms now heal you in the same way as standing in a bank does.
The Castle Wars manual has been updated.
Bandages now give more health.
Finally, the trimmed completionist cape requirement has been changed, so it is now fulfilled by speaking to Lanthus in a full set of profound armour. The cape is meant to encourage you to take part in Castle Wars and be competitive so the requirement will be easier to attain for those playing Castle Wars in the spirit it's intended.

Castle Wars is easier to get into, better-looking and a whole lot more fun than it's ever been. Whether you're a seasoned veteran or a green recruit, it's time: prepare for war!

Risk it all in Wilderness Warbands: the brutal new combat D&D that'll test your stealth, combat and teamwork skills in the most dangerous place in RuneScape!

Quercus the ent is troubled by the emergence of savage warbands in the Wilderness. The Wilderness is a dangerous place, and it's always been home to brigands and rogues aplenty. Lately, though -as rumours abound about what happened at Orlando Smith's archaeological dig - they've begun banding together in larger, more organised groups to kill and plunder: all in the name of the RuneScape gods! Quercus is worried that they're becoming a threat to the world's balance, and while he can't intervene directly, he's looking for those who can.

Quercus will regularly send out notifications as warband camps crop up in the Wilderness. You'll need to gather some strong, trustworthy friends, gear up, and make your way there past the PKers and other perils of the Wilderness. Do this, though, and with skill, teamwork and plenty of courage, you'll be able to take the warband down.

If you've set your sights on taking out a warband, a direct assault isn't the way to go. Each warband camp is based around a summoning beam, used by the warband to summon in allies. Get close enough without being seen, and you'll be able to convert the beam, switching its alignment to that of a rival god. The conversion process is quicker the more people are involved, so be sure to sneak in as many saboteurs as you can. Once that's complete, the colour of the beam will change, and you'll be able to start another such process: this time, a summoning ritual to bring in a rival warband! Once successful, the opposing force will attack and you can get stuck into the fight on your own terms. These are the first enemies in the game to use Evolution of Combat mechanics and all-new AI, so they'll still be formidable foes!

If you make yourself seen, the warband will summon like-minded rogues through the beam, and the fight will be stacked against you. Also, never forget that this is the Wilderness. You'll make a tempting target for PKers - or even traitors from your own ranks - who may deliberately alert the warband to distract you while they take you down.

Everyone involved with converting the beam or summoning in the rival warband will receive a healthy helping of Prayer or Summoning XP (respectively) at the completion of each stage. The leader of each warband also gives a chunk of Slayer XP to those responsible for his demise. On top of that, each warband's camp includes tents, filled with crates of ill-gotten goods related to a number of skills: Construction, Farming, Herblore, Mining and Smithing. Everyone involved can loot up to 25 of these per camp, and bringing these back to Quercus will earn you generous XP in the crates' related skills. You can't teleport while carrying the crates, though, so this might be easier said than done!

Finally, each time you loot a tent you have a chance to pick up the Wand of Treachery. This level 70 magic weapon is both powerful and tradeable, but there's a catch: when you pick it up, the fact will be broadcast to everyone in the vicinity, your prayer points will be completely drained, and you'll become attackable by everyone - regardless of their level. It's at times like that you find out who your friends really are!

The risks involved are great, but the rewards are greater still. Do you have the cunning and the skill to survive in RuneScape's wildest lands?
In Other News

Two new outfits, inspired by the Armadylean and Bandosian warband leaders, will be available on the Squeal of Fortune from this weekend. Keep an eye on the news for more details!
The increased chance to win Slayer Masks and XP lamps on the Squeal of Fortune - along with the 1.5x Slayer XP from Squeal of Fortune-won lamps - has been extended by three days: until Thursday March 28th, 23:59 (GMT).
The Sizzling Summer Promissory Note will expire on the 1st April. Be sure to use up any remaining XP before then!
Player-owned port totems have been reworked to function consistently and to offer more benefits.
Higher-end capes have had their armour values corrected. While the capes have lowered armour values, they still remain the most potent capes in game.
The player-owned ports log book now states the amount of time until a ship returns.
You can now toggle off the aquanites assignment option at Kuradal. Players will need to pay points to re-enable it again.
Aviansie can now be given as a Slayer task by Sumona, Duradel/Lapalok and Kuradal.
The Queen Black Dragon now counts as a black dragon for Slayer assignments.
Several common Slayer creatures have had their life points increased.
The Smash ability will now turn off Akrisae's prayers for a short time.
The home teleport spell in Dungeoneering will now be less likely to be interrupted by combat ending.
Following player feedback, we have altered the drop rates of the rarer items from the World Wakes automatons.
The default left-click option in a bank's side interface is now "Deposit all".
The Tribute to Guthix event has been extended to last an additional week, and the tribute stone north of Falador will now become a permanent prayer altar and small obelisk at 100,000 rune essence. If you haven't chipped in with your essence, be sure to do so now!
Several changes have been made to Nex. These are detailed in the patch notes.
We've made a batch of tweaks to the early game. See the patch notes for full details.

Hi all,

Today there were a few accounts that posted a thread asking if a certain link was our clans thread. This link was a phishing link, and is NOT our forum thread.
The thread was immediately removed with only a few views on it.
However I heard that he also send some PM's with this phishing link!
Do NOT click on this link and do not type in your rs name and password!

If you clicked on this link and/or tried to sign in with your rs details.
You should run a virus scan and remove all virusses and keyloggers. And change your password immediately after it!

Never ever click links that should refer to a Runescape forum thread, if someone wants to show you a thread ask the threads name or a quick find code!

I reported the site to jagex. They replied with some tips, posting them here for you guys incase you clicked it!

If you believe your account security was compromised please make sure you follow these four easy steps:

Hey everyone, I wrote this all for a school assignment. What do you think? It's a poem, followed by the morale behind it.

To the Candy Store [By: Artem K.]

Once, as always. I made my travel
To a land of wonder, and there unraveled a small round object.
What could it be? Oh wondered me.
A wheel, a medal, may be a star?
To find out, I traveled far...
Asking, Fuehrer, Emperor, and Czar!
What is this tiny life preserver?
A plate, a clock, a baby rock?
Sitting home, I heard a knock.
There humbly entered Doc.
What is it Doctor? What's the news?
Proclaimed I in a ruse.
Young man, I'm sorry, I must say.
That everything is not okay.
From here, I pondered every day.
How could I make it all "okay"...
One day, as I put on a sock.
Out of my pocket, fell; the rock.
As I stood up from the bed.
To myself I said.
It couldn't really be that bad.
So. Un-expecting, onto my tongue.
I rested it, with thoughts of being young.
To my surprise. The plate erupted!
As tears were streaming down my face, my mind was sent into a memory haze.
and Once, as always.
For the last time.
I made my travel, to a land of wonder,.
And there unraveled,
The name of this tiny star,
After which I chased for years.
Near and far.
My illness tamer.
The good Life Saver.

The moral/thinking behind this poem:

The poem is a life story written in 35 lines, it describes a man from his childhood to his elderly years ending in death. The man as a child in the early 1900s always went to the candy store. Hence: "Once, as always".

There one day he found a new type of candy, the Life Saver to be exact, in 1913. But he did not know what it was; he saved that one piece of candy unknowingly. He vowed to spend his life searching the world to find out what the name of that candy is. Hence: "Fuehrer, Emperor and Czar".

Later in his life time, once past his peak as a man, an illness befell him. At this time he was in his late 40s of age. The line "That everything is not okay" proclaims this fact. From that day forth he spent years trying to find out what was actually wrong with him, since the illness seemed incurable.

In reality, the illness besides being a physical hindrance developed into a mental and subconscious craving to relive his childhood memories, those joyous trips to the candy store; and the world travels and adventures.

Then, a day when he now was in his mid 70s, still able bodied. He was getting dressed, when out of a pocket of an old worn pair of travel pants that he kept for nostalgic reasons, fell that very first Life Saver, wrapped in tin foil, as was first done by Edward Noble, who originally bought the trademark from the inventor Clarence Crane, therefore the candy was preserved for all these years.

Thinking now, about how it was just another regular Life Saver, the old man set this piece of candy onto his tongue. It erupted with flavor, "To my surprise. The plate erupted!". Flavor that brought tears and realization to him. Realization of memories, nostalgia.

He finally was able to, in his mind, travel back in time for a brief few moments. To relive that trip to the candy store that set in course his life story. Therefore, this very last experience brought him peace. The line "My illness tamer" justifies that. Allowing him to pass away a few years later, with his conscience in tact, his memories and his mind in a calm; happy state.

Mod Pips Wrote:Dealing with Games of Chance

Hi everyone,

We talked at the beginning of the year about how we wanted to make 2013 fun, memorable and special to all of you. We’ve still got a lot to do, but are starting to make good progress, especially in the war on botting and gold farming. From listening to your feedback we've made changes to address an issue that many of you brought up as a point of concern: player-run games of chance.

Also known as flower games, hot/cold games or dicing, these games of chance had grown to become a major problem for the community and for us as the administrators of the RuneScape. In these games of chance, “hosts” offer other players a deal - usually by publicly spamming - and take a bet on the outcome of a randomised event.

Such activities create many problems: they encourage spam advertising; the trust-based trades are rife with scamming; they're disruptive to the game's economy; they create feelings of unfairness; and have links with real-world trading and gold farming.

From the recent forum discussion thread on this topic started by Mod Mark, it's clear that the overwhelming majority of you do not want this activity to remain in RuneScape. As such, we are making the following changes:

Firstly, with immediate effect, we’re making an addition to the rules of RuneScape:

You must not advertise, organise, promote or participate in player-run games of chance, where game money or items are staked on the outcome of a random activity.

Any account found to be involved in such games of chance will receive a strike against their account. As with other offences, this will escalate from muting to temp-banning, and then to a last-resort action of permanent ban.

While the hosts and advertisers of such activities are the obvious part of the problem, the players taking part are also at the root of the issue. If we’re to stamp out this type of disruptive behavior, everyone involved needs to be held accountable.

The full details of this new rule can be found in the Rules of RuneScape. As with all rules, this applies to both the main and old school services.

Secondly, in today’s game update we’ve made changes to certain in-game items which are regularly used in games of chance: mithril seeds, the Easter Ring/Ring of Egg, the Seal of Approval emote and the Classic Cape emote. To prevent their use in games of chance and to reinforce fair play, we have removed all randomised outcomes and actions from these items:

Planted mithril seeds now always grow the same coloured flower, although picking the flower will still result in a randomly coloured flower in your inventory.
Using the Ring of Egg will now always turn your character into a blue egg.
The Seal of Approval emote now chooses the same seal every time it’s used.
Clicking on the Skill Cape emote button when wearing the Classic Cape will always display a rune hatchet image.
As with our war against botting, this is an ongoing effort and not a one-off resolution. We will continue to monitor the situation and make updates as appropriate in an effort to provide the fairest and most balanced resolution to this issue.
This week’s update has also made Momentum a persistent, toggled ability, much like Incite or Single-Way Wilderness. No adrenaline is generated while it is active, and it is still cancelled by use of any other ability.
From today, Diango will be able to replace items with combat stats which have been obtained from the Squeal of Fortune. This carries of a fee of gold coins relative to the highest wield requirement for the item that you can access. Please note that following items cannot be retrieved from Diango if they have been destroyed prior to today's update: shark fists, TzHaar whip, Cupid bow, rosethorn wand, broken heart.
The bonecrusher now crushes all bones dropped by a vanquished enemy, rather than just their guaranteed drop.
All references to player-run games of chance have been removed from the Quick Chat options.
